I just just got off the phone with a senior tech at Verizon and it appears you are right as they are going into the LTE network, which WILL support voice/data simultaneously, but the current iPhone wont work with it.
I think Verizons going to have a bit of a PR issue on their hands as the iPhone is different from all other phones in that many of us waited YEARS for them to work it out with Apple and didnt go with AT&T, staying loyal to Verizon.
Now we FINALLY get our beloved iPhone only to find it is not full functioned as AT&Ts and in not to far from now, when they roll out LTE and the next iPhone comes out to work with it, all us loyalists will be rewarded with being on a 2 year contract where we cant upgrade to the new phone with a discount and have to pay full retail to finally get full functionality that you can get right now with AT&T.
If it were me and it was affordable, I think Verizon should offer their loyal customers (Ive been with them 20 years) who waited and bought iPhones an upgrade discount path, because Ill be d#@ned if Im gonna wait 2 years before I get my next upgrade discount.
Im seriously thinking of returning my iPhone, pay the $35 restocking fee and go over to the dark side and get an AT&T phone.
To be fair, I have an iPad with 3G and the few times Ive needed AT&Ts tech support, theyve been pretty good. And the service here in NY has been much better than I heard it was. I just moved from Los Angeles.
I cant even believe Im thinking/saying this, but Im using the Hotspot feature to connect my Mac Pro to the internet, because my cable appointment isnt until next week. And its been real frustrating getting bumped offline every time you get a call, or have to make one and cant surf and talk simultaneously.
Granted this will go away as soon as I get my cable internet set up, but what about all the apps that use the internet where you might be on the phone simultaneously, like Google Maps for one.
I think were gonna see more and more internet dependent apps over the years and this first Verizon iPhone will become this years Newton. IMHO of course
