Will Apple repair my iPhone 3G

Hi
I recently dropped my iPhone and completely ruined the screen, the touch screen still works however the amount of cracks in the glass make it pretty much unusable. I telephoned Apple support and they told me it would be £146 to repair, Im currently waiting for a box to arrive in order to send the handset off.
What worries me at the moment however is that I was told on the phone that my handset may be sent back to me un-repaired. The person I spoke to at customer support wasnt very specific on the subject, merely said there are cases where the phone simply cannot be repaired.
Basically, Im wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and was their phone repaired successfully? Currently this is what my phone looks like...

Anyone know if that is repairable or not?

its hard to say if its repairable or not until its actually looked at by the repair guys at apple

Since you dropped it to cause the damage, that tells me right now that they are not going to repair it as the repair option is only for hardware defects. Damage caused by you is not covered.

I made it quite clear on the phone to customer support that I had dropped the thing and I was told it would be £146 to service. Is that not the Out-of-Warranty Service cost mentioned in that FAQ ($199)? If its a policy to never service phones which have been dropped then why bother sending me a box and removing money from my account when I stated from the beginning the damage was caused by dropping.

Dropping covers a wide range of potential damage. Apple reserves the right to refuse to service an iPhone thats been physically damaged, but often they will accept the unit and provide a replacement. Its up to them, though. Its quite possible that, once they receive your iPhone and see the extent of the damage, theyll just send it back and refund your money. But with luck theyll go ahead and take care of it for you. Thats more likely if its still all on one piece and not broken into multiple parts (in which case the unit would be almost certain to be rejected).

Ahh, okay cool. Its definitely not in multiple parts, everything still seems to work fine other than the fact there are cracks all over the glass. Hey ho, can only hope for the best.
