Why doesnt iBooks appear in Apps listed under File sharing iPhone

Whats the right way to add my PDFs to iBooks? It (on the iPhone) shows a category for PDFs so it looks to be possible, but on my iTunes under Apps, there are only a few apps listed under File Sharing (letting me drag PDFs into them) and iBooks isnt one of them. How come, and whats the right way to transfer?
