Whatsapp Problems iPhone

Today, Ive been having problem with Whatsapp on my iPhone 3gs. Basically it take a while to send messages and sometimes when I do, theres only one green check (which Im sure mean hasnt been delievered)
Heres an example of what I mean:
When I open whatsapp and it connects,
then Ill click on Person A and type a message and it will only have one check beside it. Then Ill click person two and type a message and it will have one check beside and it will take a while for their to be two checks. I just dont understand why its this slow.
Is there anything I can do?

One check next to a sent message means the message was sent. Two checks next to a sent message means the message was read by the recipient.
Any problems with the WhatsApp app is up to WhatsApp to address, not a problem with Apple or the iPhone. Any problem with an app on the iPhone should be addressed to the App developer for the app no different from when having a problem with a 3rd party app on your computer.

Ive tested this out... For example Ive sent messages to a friend and asked them to reply back via text to let me know if they have recieved them (there is one check next to the message) and they have said that they havent recieved them. Any ideas?

As already provided, a check mark next to a sent message means the message was successfully sent. Two check marks next to a sent message means the message was read by the recipient which also means the message was received by the recipient.
If your messages are not being received, you need to contact WhatsApp.
