Verizon iPhone Gmail Exchange showing new email when isnt one

Reply Topic Incredibly annoying but obviously doesnt affect the functionality at all. I have Gmail and Calender set up as an Exchange and ever since this morning the email icon indicates I have a new message when there isnt one there.
I have tried restarting the phone and even went online to my Gmail account and marked all messages as read, so I know Im not missing one in a thread or something.
I have searched online in vane. Havent yet deleted the Exchange account and reset it but from what Ive read that doesnt seem to help anyway.
Im very frustrated!
