Unable to delete mail iPhone

I have an old iPhone 3G that has worked fine until yesterday. I can view 35 emails that came in today and I can delete them... then the phone turns black, flicks back on, and all 35 messages are back again. I have tried to delete a few at a time, turning the phone off and on again. The 35 messages keep coming back. I can not get rid of them. The delete function on the phone has worked fine until yesterday.

Try resetting your phone:
Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the Apple logo, then release(ignore the slide to power off).
