takes hours for messages to show after theyve actually arrived. help its iPhone 3G

can some1 please help me its getting really annoying now because i get messages, eg at 11 am this morning, and it showed up on my phone at 1.54 pm. it doesnt always do this every day but its really annoying cause some of the messages are important and its taking 4-5+ hours to show on my phone :/
ive reset my phone, updated it everything i can think of but it still does it. its been doing it for months now and i would take it to the apple shop but nearest 1 is 40 miles away and i cant get there soo i just want some help
