Syncing Mail messages iPhone

When I organise emails on my iPhone 4, my email accounts on my phone and MacBook keep in sync, eg. if I move an email to a different gmail folder on my iPhone, then that email will show up in the folder I moved it to on my MacBook too. But they dont sync on my iMac. Does anyone know why this is or how to fix it? It would be so much easier if my iMac just synced with the other mailboxes.
Also, I dont know if this is related to the problem but Mail on my MacBook shows my gmail folders but on my iMac it doesnt. Any ideas?
I have a MacBook Pro (10.4.11) and an iMac (10.5.8).

Sounds like you have not setup your Gmail account on your iMac as IMAP. To keep everything in sync requires IMAP be enabled on all your computers.
