Sporatic receipt of text messages iPhone 3G

I have acquired a used 3G and am finding that receipt of text messages is sporatic, at best. Major delays in receiving and others receiving mine. Sometimes as long as 12 hours. We have tried swiping the phone and restoring. I now have removed all applications that Ive downloaded in the past few months to see if possibly an app is causing this. Any suggestions or experiences?

If the cell says it sent it means it communicated with tower, sent data, and got acknowledgment back. It is a protocol and thus there are set responses. Thus it will only say it sent if tower said it got it. Thus it is on the carrier side. Your account, your sim, their delays etc.
