Share my location on internet iPhone 4

Hi,
Ill be going on a long trip in North America and I would like my family and friends to be able to locate me on the internet. The only way I can think of is to give them my mobileme account ID and password and theyll be able to locate me in me.com, but that involves making my info public and I dont really feel comfortable with it.
Is there another way to do what I intend to do?

Id phone or text them now and again and let them know where you are...

Or, You can use the built in Maps app. Find your current location, drop a pin, tap the chevron on the dropped pin, that tap Share Location, you can do that by email or MMS.

this is close to what I wanted but it still requires me to check in in places.. I want something that tracks my GPS location, as in some areas where Im going there will be no cellphone coverage.

the only way to do it is mobile me then sorry
