Security code invalid message iPhone 4

I got the security code is invalid message when attempting to download several apps on my new Iphone. I was using the pin number to my debit card as I have done for the past 2 years. I did some research and tried using the 3 digit code on the back of the card next to the signature strip and presto, it wor!!! Good luck
