Repair pinched ringer iPhone

My iPhone has a small dent by the ringer. Subsequently, the ringer doesnt work. The Apple store told me that I dropped the phone and therefore the warrranty was void. My only option was to turn the phone in for a $75 credit towards the purchase of a new phone. Its a $600 phone thats less than a year old. It seems ridiculous that it cant be fixed at all. The problem was intermittent, but is now so bad that if I touch the phone (e.g. try to use it), the ringer goes off. Is there a way to repair the ringer?

What you were told makes no sense. Did you make an appointment at the Genius Bar - http://apple.com/retail/geniusbar ?
An out of warranty replacement would be $199/$299 at the Genius Bar not $600.

Yes, I had an appointment at the Genius Bar. Thats who gave me what I was told was my only option - get a $75 credit towards the purcahse of a new iPhone - no option to fix it at all or for an out-of-warranty replacement - only a full cost new iPhone.
