Removing words Internet Tethering iPhone

When Internet Tethering is enabled on an iPhone4, a new line appears with the words Internet Tethering on the second line from the top of the screen. The problem is that this new line messes up some applications display. I would like to be able to remove this new line and, possibly, have another indication, such as the initials IT on the top line, to indicate Internet Tethering is enabled. Is this possible? Or, can one at least prevent the line with Internet Tethering from displaying?
