Random Dangling Thing in Messages iPhone 3G

Hey,
So like once every week or two this happens when viewing my text inbox.

Does anybody know what this, why this happens, and/ or how to stop this from happening? Its not a button that can be pressed. Its just sitting over the edit button, but I can still press the edit button. Also, if I pull up the multitasking panel and close messaging it is remedied. Its not a debilitating problem or anything, but it is really annoying and frustrating to me.
