Projecting slideshows and pictures on TV or other iPhone 3G

I have a series of pictures Id like to project from my iPhone through a classroom hookup onto a big screen. I have all the wiring and technology figured out, but I cannot figure out how, using the Photos app, to project individual pictures. The app WILL allow slideshows—but they are automatically timed, and you cannot pause the show and manually move to the next slide.
Are there any apps which will allow me to show individual pictures? Or to create manually-controlled slideshows? Or does anyone know of some other fix for this?
