Play music on another library-Not sync or copy iPhone

All,
I have an iPhone 3GS 16gb and I manage my music manually (never sync music) on my personal PC, but when I connect my iphone to me work pc and try to listen to my music stored on Iphone its all greyed out. Ive been doing this for years with my 60gb ipod with no issues, why I cant do this with my iphone? Now I always need to carry my iphone and ipod all the time,
Does someone knows why I cant listen to my music (I just want to listen to it)?

Because unlike your iPod there is no disk mode on the iPhone.

This is not a feature of iphone.
powerbook g4, iMac 20 Mac OS X (10.6.1) airport express, iphone, ipod, ipod touch

iPhone 3G--4 upgrade apps wont updateinstall-verification required

deleting data but still have working phone iPhone 3G
