Phone wont stay connected to home wifi after router channel change iPhone

I have seen lots of interference in my wifi network, as channel 1 was starting to get crowded. So I changed to channel 8 on the router. Well, my 3Gs connected to channel 1 with no problems for 1.5 years. Now, since Ive switched channels, it connects sparingly - meaning, it might connect some times, but wont stay connected long. How do I get it to connect and stay connected? Ive tried renewing the lease to no avail. Nothing else on the router changed - SSID, password, etc.
Thoughts?
