Out of Warranty Service Repair Question iPhone 3G

I took in my iPhone to get it replaced through the out of warranty service. However they required my sim card to activate it. I use a sim adapter and my iphone is on T-Mobile because I cancelled my ATAT service. My question: Is it possible for them to activate my iphone with my old turned off sim card from ATAT or my T-Mobile card with the sim adapter?
