Migration Issue iPhone to iPhone 4-Photos Overwritten

Hello,
I upgraded from my original iPhone to 4. While I immediately began using my iPhone 4, due to corporate network reasons did not sync my iPhone 4 to iTunes immediately.
I was told by my AT&T Rep that I could start using my iPhone 4 and, when ready, the sync would merge the old and new phones together...including photos.
I performed my first sync this morning and selected backup. I made the mistake of trusting the advise of my AT&T Rep and shamefully admit that I neglected to manually backup my videos and photos.
On completion of the sync the photos and videos from my new iPhone4 were not magically merged with my old phone...only the photos from the iPhone were there.
Im hoping this community can possibly save me from my negligence and 1) tell me that the photos/videos are still in memory somewhere and 2) suggest some magic way to restore/access them.
