Messages group SMS iPhone

I have discovered in the STOCK messages app any message sent to more than one recipient is automatically converted to an mms message. Is there a way around this WITHOUT a 3rd party app? If not okay, but I would love to see this corrected in a soon firmware update.

Yep.
Settings > Messages > Group Messaging OFF.
Now it will send as individual texts.
