For me at least it was a DNS issue. The iphone was getting the routers ip on top of the dns address. I noticed the web pages hung up at the first contact when the IP address is usually looked up on the DNS. I deleted the dns numbers on the dhcp panel then looked up my DNS numbers on my router. (For a belkin, point your browser to 192.168.2.1) I typed in the DNS ip address manually in the dhcp panel and Im back online. And this is after adding in WPA security to a system previously completely open. The initial security change did nothing. The DNS manual entry fixed it all.

This sounds promising. Can someone be a bit more specific about the steps taken to resolve this issue?

Wow, thank you, Rick.
For 16 hours now Ive been trying everything in every forum to get this wifi problem fixed. Fortunately I, too, have a belkins wireless router, so I was able to use your instructions to the letter and manually retype in the DNS address, and voila, it worked!
But now Im worried that this type of problem will happen every time the phone tries to jump on a wifi hotspot--have you had any experiences with this?
Thank you!

THANK YOU! I am not the most tech savvy person -- but your directions were a godsend! And while I was pleasently surprised with the speed of EDGE -- WIFI is in a league of its own!
Thanks again for posting your solution -- its the first thing that has worked!
