iPod App on iPhone Loads Data

Whenever I open the Unified iPod app (seemingly only after it has been cleared from the multitasking bar) the data symbol from my connection (EDGE/3G/Wi-Fi depending on what connection I have) seems to load data into the app, even though the app uses no data from outside sources, as all my song and video data is stored on the SSD of the phone.
Help, Im confused?

Could be a background process. How long does the spinning gear display for?
