iPhone keyboard entering keystrokes not typed

The Passcode says Im typing in the wrong code when I am. Typing the code slowly works. Keyboard is entering bogus characters. Ive had the phoen for over a year and never had this problem until the dude at the AT&T store pulled out my sim card without turning my phone off. Is my phone damaged or is the keyboard issue a software/hardware upgrade issue?
