I tried to download the new Google app. I think it downloaded, but when it was installing, it was taking so long I had to turn off the phone for a while. Now the icon with a progress window is on my iPhone with waiting below it.
Ive tried to delete it through iTunes with no luck. I tried tapping it to remove it like other apps, but it doesnt get an x in the corner to delete it.
I want to reinstall it. How can I do that?

Have you downloaded the app with iTunes on your computer?
If so, have you tried to install or re-install the app from iTunes on your computer via the iTunes sync process?
I prefer downloading apps with iTunes on my computer and installing the app from iTunes via the iTunes sync process.

I did download to my computer. When I tried to sync, nothing happened. I tried deleting the app on the computer and iPhone and reinstall, but nothing happened.
All Ive had on my phone for the last three days is a Google icon with an empty progress window in the icon.
I cant get rid of it.

I suggest doing a restore with iTunes.
This will erase your iPhone first followed by re-installing the current firmware version. This must be followed by a sync.

The iPhone is designed to be synced with a supported application on your computer for contact info and calendar events.
With a Mac, this can be with the Address Book for contact info, and with iCal for calendar events. This is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences. If you havent been syncing contact info with the Address Book on your Mac, now is a good time to start. If you dont currently use the Address Book on your Mac for storing contact info, before syncing enter one contact in the Address Book - make one up if needed, which can be deleted later.
This will provide a merge prompt when syncing contact info, which you want to select. This will place your iPhone contact info in the Address Book on your Mac. After doing a restore with iTunes and restoring your iPhone from your iPhones backup, your contact info will be replaced with the required sync that follows.
Photos captured by your iPhone should be imported by your computer - as with any other digital camera. You can use iPhoto or the Image Capture application on your Mac for this.
