iPhone and Windows XP x64 64 bit

Ive never been a fan of apple... quite the opposite. However, the iPhone is like shiny devil cocaine and has allured me for quite some time. Well, today I gave in and bought one. Immediately when I get home, I regret it. Not only is it dumb that I cant download any apps (even free) without activating my phone in iTunes, but then I find out iTunes will not run on the 64 bit version of XP!!!
So less than an hour after buying the phone, I had to contact tech support... Before any one posts, yes Ive seen the tutorial for using Orca to modify the MSI and get iTunes to install. I did that. It installed fine. Now when I run it, NOTHING happens. The process just sits there, hanging out, being worthless.
Im pretty sure Id rather return the phone than buy a new OS and rebuild my PC.
