iPhone 3G cracked above dock connector

The other day I plugged the sync cord into my iPhone 3G and the casing above it cracked about a inch. It now says 3rd party accessory not supported randomly when I use it with nothing plugged in.
What are the chances Apple will cover this under applecare?
