Help How to fix iPhone3G frozen at Apple logo Tried restoringcharging

My iPhone 3G is frozen at the Apple logo. Tried these and they did not work: hard restart, reinstalled newest iTunes, in recovery mode performed restore to factory settings on a different computer, charged it w/ AC charger over night.
How I got there: The Facebook app froze so I deleted it and tried to reinstall it as I have done many times before. I powered it off, but then it would not turn on past the Apple logo.
I completed a Restore as described w/ newest iTunes installed on my computer and on a Mac, and it completed the restore, but even after that, iTunes still wont recognize it as a device and im back to where I started. I am still stuck at the Apple logo even after having Restored it.
I tried charging the phone via AC for a couple of hours, but still nothing. Could the battery be dead dead?
Whenever I try plugging the phone into iTunes, it is not recognized and when I hold the home and power buttons for a long time, that recovery screen w/ the graphic of the USB cable to iTunes logo comes up...even though I just completed the Recovery/Restoration!!!!
Any ideas of what i can do other than taking it in?
