Downloading pictures iPhone 3G

I was trying to download pic from my phone onto my computer, they apppeared to import, but then I was directed to itunes and there I seem to have lost a few of the picture that I downloaded.
I went back to iphotos but a few of the pics are missing,
Is there someway that I can retrieve them even though they are no longer in my photo album on my phone?

You imported Camera Roll pics ( taken with the iphone) in iphoto?
Did you choose delete originals or not from iphoto when you imported?
If you did not, then they should still be on the Camera Roll on your iphone.
