Choice Auto connect to unknown WiFi-or-Get unwanted messages every time iPhone

Heres what I would like to happen (iPhone OS 4):
1) Connect to my home & known wifi networks automatically (this happens)
2) DONT connect to any other networks unless I go to Settings > Wifi and choose one I want (this isnt an option)
3) DONT keep telling me about every goddam network in the street every time I get my phone out to use email / safari.
I know I can prevent the available network messages by having Ask to join networks off - but then Im joining every unsecured network in town as I walk around - this is insane. I dont want to be opening up my email and password to snoopers on every unsecured network in town as I travel around. I want to use my cellular network providers data - thats what Im paying them for.
But when Im at home I want to automatically join my home wifi network. The rest of the time, dont keep hassling me about every network in the street. Dont join unsecured networks without me even knowing about it. Godammn bonkers.
The only way around this is to turn off wifi every time I leave the house. This is bonkers.

Any reason you cant just leave Ask to Join Networks on? Your phone is only going to bug you if it is actually on. If it is in standby, it isnt going to bug you. I guess your alternative is to turn WiFi off - you will certainly use your cellular network then.
BTW, you arent necessarily at particularly high risk when connected to an open network so you might want dial back the paranoia a bit and enjoy your phone. You can connect to an open network, use VPN, and be highly secure. Another alternative is to use web based email which uses the HTTPS secure protocols - unlikely to hacked as well.

I agree more control over WiFi networks would be nice. I have a WiFi router at home, but it has a data limit, the phone has unlimited. So when I am at home I only want to connect to my WiFi when I want to, not just because the phone found it. Now other places, yes I want to connect to free WiFi. But, as I drive down the road I dont need to get the pop up showing every WiFi in the area every time I slow down or stop at a red light. Would be nice to actually identify known networks and assign a connection option to them.
