Cannot send mail from iphone

Okay so my grandma just got her new iphone and up until she had this problem Ive ignored the same problem on my phone but mise well get them both fixed at the same time! So she uses thunderbird on her computer for email and has a cwisp.ca address I use windows live msn for my email and have a msn.com address. We are both able to receive email but are unable to send from our phones. Ive looked everywhere online on ways to set you mail settings and nothing seems to resolve it. Does anyone know how to fix this? any help appreciated!
