This is so crazy. Even though Apple advertises this as a feature of the iPhone, I cannot search the NOTE field within my Contacts.
This is clearly a bug, as Apple advertises this very contact note search feature in the iPhone 4 spec sheet on their website.
See for yourself:

Search inside applications. Searching on iPhone works in other apps too. Search text and names in MMS messages. Search names and notes in Contacts. Search calendar events by subject, location, attendees, or notes. Search all text in Notes. Search for albums, artists, or songs in the iPod app.
So the problem is, if I have the word plumber in the notes field of a contact and then search from within the Contacts app for the word plumber (in order to find all the plumbers I know), I get the message: No Results.
This blows. Why would Apple disable this feature? Am I the only one who uses the NOTE filed in my Contacts/Addressbook?
And, yes, I have done a restart and restore. And I also have every search option enabled in Settings>General>Spotlight Search.
Anyone else have this problem?
