Cannot hear during phone calls unless speakerphone on iPhone 3G

Really getting bugged. Whenevern I make a phone call the called party cant hear me nor I can hear them UNLESS I switch on the speakerphone. I tried resetting by holding down the power/home buttons... switching on & off etc but it just sont work.. Please help !!!! SN in Dubai !
