best video settings for iphone 3gs and xbox 360

hi all,
thought id start early on my macs spring cleaning. going thru my video folder, im noticing mp4 files that my xbox 360 wont play. also, the iphone will only play h264 files (is that correct, no avi files?).
so, as i set about converting video, anyone have any suggestions as to which codec i should be using to make iphone and xbox 360 friendly files?
