App Store Application-not showing updates iPhone

My app store application isnt showing available updates unless I open the app up and refresh it. With my iPod Touch and old phone whenever an app update became available it showed the little red number on the app without actually having to open it. Now I dont know if there is any updates unless I manually open it up and refresh it. Also, the same thing is happening with my facebook app. Its not showing notifications unless I open it and refresh it as well. Any ideas? I do have my push notifications turned on.

Hi,
Restart your iPhone.
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
See if there are updates available.
