1601 with unresponsive ipod iPhone 3G

Reply Topic i recently got and unresponsive iphone 3gs that is unresponsive i have connected it to itunes which only works when the iphone is in DFU mode but when i try to restore it the preparing iphone restore status bar goes for about 5mins then i get Error 1601 i have itunes 10 so this should not be a problem right? What should i do?
