No audio on phone calls-fixable software issue iPhone 4

My iPhone 4 started misbehaving yesterday. Though Im able to make and receive calls (the call connects, the seconds start ticking), I get no audio at all in the call - that is, the poepole Im calling cant hear me, and I cant hear them. All other apps produce and receive audio perfectly, and Im able to call using Skype, so it doesnt seem to be a speaker/mic hardware issue.
After restoring the phone twice, once as a new phone, and once from my backup, theres no improvement. I even tried a couple different SIM cards, all to no avail.
Anyone else having this issue? Id hate to give up my phone for three weeks or more, just to find out that this was a fixable software thing.

Its such an odd problem, Skype is perfect over WiFi and 3G. When I try calling my voicemail, the speaker icon lights up right away (though theres no sound), and when I disable speaker, I cant enable it again.

Skype has a known issue where it is not releasing the audio.

The solution is stop using skype.

Thanks for replying.
This doesnt appear to be related to that particular issue, though. All audio across the system works fine except audio in phone calls.
Ive tried restoring several times, and the problem was present even before restoring any apps from my backup.
Thinking back, Im also pretty sure I started using Skype as an alternative because of my audio problems.

I bought 3 iPhone4 from Hong kong for my family.
of which 1 has the same problem (No sound from ear piece when making or receiving a call). when I try to make a call the Speaker sign gets enabled but both the parties are not able to hear anything. its the same for both incoming and outgoing calls.
since I live in India, I have to take it back to the seller in Hong kong to find a solution. Iam sure the seller wont refund my money back or replace it for a new phone. I bought each phone for $1,300.00USD. Dont Know what todo. Iam stuck. Any help Please. As they say it is the worst encounter with iPhone4. after spending somuch money.

Hey guys having the exact same issue here.
call connects (seconds start ticking) but no audio on either end.
the speaker, mic and headphones are working fine on other applications.
any of u had any luck yet?
